externship program
Red Bank Veterinary Hospital offers an externship program for successful veterinary students to further their clinical training. Participating students are allowed the opportunity to observe cases as they are handled from diagnosis through treatment in one of the largest privately-owned veterinary specialty hospitals in the United States. Students are welcome to ask questions, participate in grand rounds and department rounds, and attend any in-house continuing education lectures that may be held during their stay. Students may apply for an externship for up to three weeks, with no more than two weeks being spent on a single service.

A separate extern/preceptor program is also available for students attending Western University School of Veterinary Medicine. This preceptor program fulfills specific requirements set forth for the Western University Fourth Year veterinary curriculum.

internship program
Red Bank Veterinary Hospital participates in the Veterinary Internship & Residency Matching Program (VIRMP) to acquire veterinarians for our annual internship program. This enables us to recruit top graduate veterinarians from the United States and Canada who desire advanced training in veterinary medicine. Many of our interns pursue further training in specialized residency programs after completing our year-long internship.

Information on our available positions is posted each year at www.virmp.org. In order to disseminate consistent and accurate information to all candidates, Red Bank Veterinary Hospital hosts Intern Orientations. Orientations consist of a hospital tour and meetings with various hospital personnel so that candidates have an opportunity to see the hospital and get a better understanding of the environment in which they may work. Candidates also meet with members of the current intern class for uncensored discussions on life as an RBVH intern. One-on-one interviews with each candidate are conducted during the orientations.

residency program
Red Bank Veterinary Hospital offers residency programs to highly qualified veterinarians interested in specialized training in areas such as cardiology, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, and small animal surgery. Residents are exposed to, and actively participate in, primary patient care, daily rounds, journal club, seminars, clinical research, and investigative research projects. Typically, a residency program requires three years of training and insures eligibility for board certification in its particular specialty.

Information on our available positions is posted each year at www.virmp.org. If you are interested in applying for a residency at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital and wish to tour the hospital and meet the staff, you are encouraged to set up a meeting directly with the director of that specialty service. Contact names are found in our program descriptions located on the VIRMP website. You may also call us at (732) 747-3636 for more information.
